Sub-Military Long Range Precision Rifle Training Programs


Central Virginia Tactical's sub-military curriculum is designed as a refresher to former US military and/or law enforcement personnel.

It is tailored to those most interested in refreshing specific long range rifle marksmanship skills in order to perform principal protection, patrol, location security and private security contract duties both domestically and abroad.

Sessions available at your convenience, seven days a week.
Session 1

Three day Basic Precision Tactical Rifle Course

This is an extension of the original 2-day course geared toward the Military 2- man sniper team. However, 1 student can take this course. Over the last several years so much more information and tactics have changed, we felt it was too much to try to teach this in two days. A modified version of this course for civilians is available.

This course will cover the following:

  • Mildot or any ranging reticule reading. Which will include dialing elevation and windage, as well as holdovers.
  • Understanding MOA and Centimeter adjustments
  • Range card development and understanding
  • Building your position, basic marksmanship development, trigger control
  • Knowing, selection and understanding your equipment.
  • Wind reading, extensive understanding natural indicators and formulas
  • Ranging unknown distance targets, engaging targets from 400 yds to 1000 yds
  • Rifle maintenance, cleaning and maintaining your equipment.

The student can book this class anytime throughout the year, with no more than 4 students a day. (Unless special team requirements) This class is $750, which includes bunking at CVT, with 1 meal per day furnished. $600, if student prefers to stay at another location.

The student can book this class anytime throughout the year, for individual classes one on one. This class is $1050, which includes bunking at CVT, with 1 meal per day furnished. $900, if student prefers to stay at another location.

Equipment list:

  • Bolt or Semi-auto rifle capable of 1 moa of accuracy or less.
  • Scope with a ranging reticule
  • Bipod, notched leg, swivel preferred
  • Rucksack (backpack) optional
  • Rain and other suitable clothing for the season
  • Pens, pencils and notebook
  • Logbook optional
  • 300 rounds of either 175 grain match ammo for .308 win., 190 grain match ammo for 300 wm, 77 grain match ammo for .223 (Call we can discuss options for any caliber match ammo)
  • Snacks, sun block, water can be purchased on the way to the range.


Session 2

Advanced Military Tactical Precision Rifle Course

This course follows the CVT Advanced Military Precision Tactical Rifle Course 1. However, skill levels can be evaluated prior to taking the course if you haven’t attended the basic course at CVT. This course is designed for the Military 2-man sniper team. (However, 1 student can take it). A modified version of this course is available for the civilian student.

Course outline:

  • Over view on Mil reading and ranging reticules
  • Over view on Centimeter or MOA adjustments
  • Establishment of clean cold bore, cold bore and zeroing of the weapon
  • Positions, such as prone, standing, kneeling, sitting and over and around obstacles
  • Advanced wind reading, from every angle to including thermals, and mirage
  • Ranging unknown distances, dialing elevation and windage and holdovers

This is a 3- day course. The student can book this class anytime throughout the year, with no more than 4 students a day. (Unless special team requirements) This class is $750 per student, which includes bunking at CVT, with 1 meal per day furnished. $600, if student prefers to stay at another location.

*Lodging:
Individual students who are invited to spend the weekend with Vern and his family (at their private residence) will be asked to contribute $50.00 per night "Keeping the Peace" fee toward the cost of clean sheets, soda, hot water, snacks, and good will.

Guests are expected to be kind and respectful towards children, pets, family members, friends and fellow students, pick up their own dishes, make their own bed and generally behave themselves.

If you are unable to adapt, get a room.
